VOSTOK Company Story: VOSTOK's story began in 1942 when one of Moscow's watch-making plants was evacuated to the small town of Chistopol on the Kama River. During the war years, the company's sole output was defense equipment. But as soon as the war ended, VOSTOK began manufacturing mechanical wristwatches, which have remained their primary production item ever since.
In 1965, VOSTOK was appointed as the official supplier of watches for the Defense Department of the Soviet Union. This year marked the creation of the world-famous "Komandirskie" ("Commander") watch. The military watch grew immensely popular, even among civilians, thanks to its high precision, reliability, and durability. The watch's functional and clear-cut design evoked a sense of belonging to the tough world of combat professionals.
The experience VOSTOK gained in developing the army watch laid the foundation for their next special timepiece - the "Amphibian." This impressive stainless-steel watch could withstand depths of up to 200 meters, making it a true "wrist submarine."
